Sigmund has emerged from the idea of creating a new piece of furniture by modifying an existing structure. Gioia Meller Marcovicz used a run-of-the-mill sun lounger’s simple hinge mechanism, that did not really need reinventing – then modified the frame dimensions and added deep upholstery.

Stained Glass where light is the colour as these stained-glass windows stream down the wall of a XVII century courtyard. All the illusions of the mind mirrored in the changing hues of the Laguna waters, the capricious weather playing with the designs and in the bottom window from the dark flow surges a barely recognizable profile, a gentle salute to whoever has meandered his way up to that running river of light and darkness. – Catherine Bernard

When, on one of those lucky days, I was asked to contribute a design for a carpet project, I eagerly accepted. At once I realized that a long awaited opportunity had arrived. I could take Venice, the city in which I have lived, apply its essence and architecture and somehow weave it into a carpet. To explore the never seen angels, infants, saints and sages, columns, pillars, domes and arches, marble lacework, marble folds, the rich, opulent and lavish and copy these overwhelming sights into a proportionately small camera. Merging these awe-inspiring images with technology, a journey unfolded and the aim became clear: I am spinning a yarn for the master weavers. - GMM
